Read an article about the use music has for us (
read here). I think it poses some really solid ideas... ones that I definitely believe. I have awfully blurry memories, but music never ceases to bring back such specific feelings. Kudos to Joe Manning on this one.
Music always takes me back to certain places and people. Whenever I hear Broken Bells, I think of your birthday and cute cats; whenever I hear The Suburbs, I think of being in England and meeting my family; whenever I hear "Home" by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, I think of how I felt over winter break. Last year, I made a playlist all through the year of songs that were significant to me, and I'm doing the same this year... it's amazing to see the progression, because whenever I listen to those songs in order, it's like I can feel all the feelings again, and all in about six hours. (Not that I've sat down and listened the whole way through, but there is a definite musical/mood progression, from bright jangly tunes to darker ones to the, "Oh God I've Been Listening to Arcade Fire for Three Weeks Straight" section, haha.)
ReplyDeleteAlso I have a kid called Joseph Manning in one of my classes who goes by Joe. haaaaaaaaahahaha.
THIS IS THE KID FROM MY CLASS. I AM FAIRLY SURE OF IT. I had to pick up a copy of this week's magazine just to make sure, and the guy in the picture most definitely has the same beard as the guy in my class. /plays the music to "it's a small world"
